A state of confusion reigned at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Thursday when the police officers attached to the secretariat and some of their staffs manhandled protesters demanding an  unpaid debt estimated at N360 million.
The mayhem started in the early hours of yesterday when the angry police officers led by one Sergeant Reuben Onu and some PDP staff, physically assaulted workers of Twinkles World Limited.
The company claimed to have handled the contract for the decoration of PDP presidential campaigns in all the states of the federation in the last general election amounting to the tune of over N360 million.
Having exhausted all avenues of negotiation, the company led by the Managing Director, Mr. Tunde Agarawu and Project Coordinator, Mr. Awonaiya Olayemi, led the rest of their staff on a peaceful agitation to press home their demands for payment.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions including “PDPPCO is owing us for the service we provided them”, “Prof. Jerry Gana, pay us our money now,” “Dr. Ahmadu Alli, DG of PDPPCO, pay our money now,” “Mr. President, Prof. Jerry Gana is yet to pay Twinkle World Ltd” and “Nigerians: PDP is owing Twinkle World.”
However, the security men who would have none of that battered Agarawu, while Olayemi had his head covered with sands.
With the pandemonium getting out of control, the police team called for  reinforcement numbering over 30 who chased away the protesters’
Meanwhile, one of the police officers who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Olayemi and Agarawu were assaulted because they failed to heed the advice of channelling their grievances to Legacy House, which is the office of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO).
Speaking with to journalists, the aggrieved staff of the company insisted that they would drag the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan and the party to court over the unpaid debts.
Already, Agarawu said their lawyer had issued a seven-day ultimatum to PDPPCO to offset the debt or face action in court.

According to him, since Jonathan lost the presidential election to Muhammadu Buhari, he and the PDP hierarchy, had failed to pay most debts incurred for the campaigns.
He alleged that a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana and other members of the PDPPCO deliberately withheld their money, even though a directive had been given by the immediate-past chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu that the debts be cleared.
