Imo State Police Command yesterday morning detonated a bomb planted under a palm tree, 10 metres from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in the state.
An eyewitness account said a loud noise was heard from where the bomb was planted in front of the Owerri Capital Development Agency (OCDA), which sent workers scampering for safety
Spokesman of the state police command, Mr. Andrew Enwerem (DSP), however, said the police got a tip-off and immediately swung into action. He confirmed that the Bomb Disposal Squad of the police detonated the bomb planted under a palm tree at the gate of Owerri Capital Development Authority office complex.
When Daily Sun visited the scene at about 11am yesterday, there was a heavy presence of policemen to cordon off the entire Owerri/Port Harcourt Road leading to INEC office.
