From Ibrahim Shuaibu in Kano
Kano State police command on Thursday warned politicians and religious leaders in the state to desist from provocative and inciting utterances in order not to heat up the polity.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba, said there was the need for both leading parties to ensure that peace prevailed in the state to ensure peaceful and hitch-free elections next month.
Shinaba said security agents would do everything within their power to ensure security of lives and property before, during and after the elections.

Speaking  in a meeting with party, religious and community leaders held at the Officers Mess in Kano, he also charged politicians to base their campaigns on issues rather than attacking personalities.
Mr Aderenle Shinaba said "The essence of campaign is for contestants to present to electorate what they will do for them. So your campaigns should be based on issues not on personalities’’.
"The year 2015 is very significant to the future of this country. So anybody or group of persons found trying to foment trouble will not be spared".
The commissioner urged the two parties to educate their followers on the importance of peaceful conduct during election as the command will not fold its arms and allow unscrupulous elements to cause trouble.
"Nobody has the monopoly of violence and it is not the solution to perceived injustices".
In their separate remarks, the Chief Imam of Alfurqan Mosque, Dr. Bashir Umar appealed to politicians to watch their utterances so as not to set the country ablaze.
He promised to continue to preach peace for the development of the state and the country.
